Umbrellas pattern and more things I did recently

Drew this rainy umbrellas pattern in Procreate for this week’s Illustration Friday topic “umbrella”, then created a blog post at my art blog.

Before that, I drew this space snail for last week’s topic which was… yeah, you got it right, “snail”:

Also, created a blog post with sketches drawn in the second and third weeks of February.

Horned owl illustration and products

This horned owl was drawn a long time ago for my poster class along with the skating giraffe. The task was to create an impossible animal. Owls are beautiful birds. They also look very serious and literature presents them as such. When you look at their faces, though, their big eyes make them a bit funny, too. And as I was in love with owls then (and still am), this idea came to my mind very quickly. I had called the creature a viking owl then because of the viking helmets with horns. Later I created art prints and products with this funny cartoon bird. The poster was even featured at Zazzle as a product of the day. Continue reading Horned owl illustration and products

Methane molecule illustration and more stuff created recently

Created a vector illustration with this methane molecule. Chemistry is fun for me so why chemical illustrations shouldn’t be? Made a pattern, too. Added prints and products to Redbubble and to my Society6 store, too.

Recent watercolor sketches Feb 24 2017

Watercolor sketches and art which I recently uploaded to Instagram. I continue to explore watercolor art and I love it more and more. Up to now I’ve created mostly digital artworks. Now I’m thinking of making art prints out of my traditional drawings, too.

Evil Grin Cartoon Face Vector Illustration

This evil grin doesn’t need a face. It has sharp teeth and evil eyes. What more do you need to draw an expression…

I drew this illustration a long time ago. Wanted to sew a pouch for my phone and I sketched it. Did make the pouch, it did not turn out as well as I wanted. I’m not a master at sewing. Then I made a vector illustration after the sketch. Turned out much better than the pouch.

Andean Condor Bird Illustration

This Andean condor was drawn for a compilation of songs in the style Huayno. It is a collaborative name for the traditional songs of the countries in South America – Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, played especially by the Quechua people there. I designed a music cover for songs like these some time ago. I wanted to create a design which resembles the style of Andean textiles. They’re beautiful, geometric, bright. I wanted it to be modern yet to have the spirit of native South American art. Birds, especially condors, sun were motives which I saw in most of the textiles there. And I listened to this kind of music then to get in the mood. Loved it, actually. So I decided to draw a geometric condor with wide spread wings flying in from of a big yellow sun. Sketch in watercolor – December 7th 2016

Recently I started to sketch with watercolors. I had wanted to try this since ever but I was somehow intimidated by the medium. Watched some cool online classes at Skillshare, gathered courage and started. Had some watercolor pencils, tried them first. The snowflake and the red flowers below are drawn with them. I like how intense the colors become when adding a little water to a densely shaded area. Then found a watercolor set which had remained from the last school year of my kids and some Ikea brushes. Continued with them. Here are the recent sketches:

Drawing with aquarelle turned out to be great fun. And my biggest problem seems to be not working with the paint itself but drawing on watercolor paper. I am afraid of using high quality paper because I will ruin it. Plus, there is some charm in the wrinkled paper. Just recently I started to overcome this fear by getting the cheapest heavy paper I could find and just forcing myself to draw on it. Still using children’s watercolor paints and brushes, though. Well, I’m happier this way for now. 🙂
